When we launched our Direct-to-Resident insurance program last year, the goal was simple: Deliver tangible value to residents in the form of educational content and comprehensive insurance coverage. To date, more than 1,000 residents have signed up for an insurance policy. The program is currently available in California, New York, and New Jersey, and we are working closely with our partner to reach more markets throughout 2018.
Providing our residents with knowledge—the right information at the right time—is the most important component of the Direct-to-Resident insurance program. In addition to delivering this content straight to a resident’s inbox, a website and blog are available to help them understand everything they need to know about risk, insurance, and safety. The program is always evolving, and we regularly communicate as new tools and resources become available.
Following the initial launch of the resident insurance program, over 1,000 residents living in FirstService Residential properties purchased competitive and comprehensive insurance policies with our partner, Lemonade. We received fantastic feedback from residents, many of whom purchased insurance for the very first time. The few claims that were filed highlighted the value of Lemonade’s claims experience, including one of our own property managers whose $10,000 water claim was paid in full even though she’d been a policyholder for just two months. As uncomfortable as insurance claims can be, we are very excited that Lemonade responded in such a positive way.
